Hotspot for iPhone Good? Hotspot Alternatives?

Hotspot for iPhone Good? Hotspot Alternatives?

Hotspot Shield VPN is one of the most popular VPN apps on the iOS and Android stores. Automatically, you might think this is a good VPN service, and it’s something that can be trusted and used due to it ranking so high. However, as you’ve seen with other apps in Top 25 lists–just because something is downloaded and used, doesn’t mean that it’s worth using / playing.

Most of the high quality games on the app store are hidden away behind games like Clash of Clans or other copycat clones that mirror the Clash Royale phenomenon. However, the difference here is that while you might not have any fun with these cheapy games, using a VPN like Hotspot can actually harm you. In this article on Hotspot Shield, I’ll go over why Hotspot Shield for iPhone isn’t worth using, and what are some better alternatives.

Why is Hotspot Shield VPN “Bad”?

Hotspot Shield isn’t the worst VPN in a lot of ways. There are worse VPNs after all. However, it’s definitely one of the worst. Let me tell you why.

VPNs by nature are designed to protect user security and anonymity. That is their primary focus. Whether you rely on a VPN to protect your torrent activity, to hide information from your ISP, or to keep you safe in public Wi-Fi hotspots–a VPN should do all of these things without compromising your information, selling it off, or redirecting you to third party sites.

Unfortunately, as we’ve examined in the past, free VPNs usually do all of these things to make a profit off their “free” VPN service.

So where does Hotspot Shield VPN come in the picture? Well a privacy group based in the US filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission that Hotspot Shield is actually collecting data from users and redirecting them to other sites to make money. The report claims that Hotspot is using “deceptive trade practices”.

This does not surprise us, since we are very skeptical of free products here on Best10VPN.com. We purchase every VPN with our own credit card, and we’ve seen huge issues with VPNs and while a lot of time the expensive VPNs are often not very good, almost every single “bargain” VPN has usually been a bad product. When a VPN has to stand out with “pricing” that is usually a bad sign.

A VPN should stand out with good speeds, reputation, good offerings, customer service, and everything else that makes a good product.

#1 TorGuard

If you want the best mobile VPN provider, I would wager you should pick TorGuard. It’s our top-rated VPN here by a considerable margin. Not only does it have some of the best speeds, but it also has the best customer service–which in the VPN industry, is quite unusual.

They support almost every cryptocurrency as payment, they don’t keep logs, and their pricing feels very fair for what you get. Read the full TorGuard Review to see why they are the best alternative to Hotspot Shield VPN.

#2 Private Internet Access

If you want something a bit cheaper, check out PIA. Sure, some people hate PIA with a passion, and sometimes it does suffer some speed issues, but everytime we’ve tested PIA ourselves, we found a polished easy-to-use product.

With PIA, there are plenty of servers, the app is easy to use, and the community behind this VPN is very large and sometimes helpful on the PIA forums.

#3 IPVanish VPN

IPVanish is not quite as good as TorGuard, and not as cheap as PIA, but they do have fast speeds, capable applications, and a decent company behind it. While I don’t like their Overplay VPN–(just a different branded VPN option), and the amount of websites that are bought out by IPVanish advertising, I can’t deny that their mobile app for iPhone and Android is leagues better than Hotspot’s.
