UFlix Netflix? Does it Work with Netflix?

Untitled design

Since Netflix started blocking VPNs aggressively in January of 2016, we have been covering the latest fixes and services that have been blocked. Recently, another service that allowed proxy use with Netflix has gone down the can.

This service is UFlix, an Australian based company designed specifically for unlocking media streaming by masking IP addresses. UFlix is only one such service that we’ve seen throw in the towel–that of which includes huge providers like Private Internet Access, CactusVPN, Unotelly, UnblockUS, Smartflix, and more. See the full list of providers here.

As of now, UFlix no longer supports users trying to access Netflix, but it still claims that it can help Australian customers access other services. However, this isn’t unique or revolutionary, since other better services can do the same and more (UFlix is just a DNS workaround, not a security solution).

A UFlix employee spoke out about the issue explaining that they “made the decision due to the aggressive nature of the bans,” and that “unfortunately every time we set up a new network or find a workaround it is getting blocked within hours.”

“This may change in the future, but for the moment we are not going to support Netflix. We are however still working on it in the background and have some things ready as a proof of concept which we will be testing.”

We can’t blame UFlix for backing out since the problem at hand is difficult to solve. You have Netflix who has to protect their agreements with TV companies, and they protect their agreements by rooting out users bypassing their guidelines and geo-restrictions. They find proxy users accessing content they aren’t supposed to–even if it’s not illegal for paying users to do so.It’s easy for Netflix to identify proxy/VPN users based on the number of individuals sharing anonymous IPs.

This is why services like TorGuard have had success working with Netflix despite impending blocks since users can use purchased dedicated IPs for an additional cost to gain access to Netflix for longer periods of time than regular IPs.

Visit TorGuard

We’ve been using TorGuard to access Netflix since January, and while the IPs do get blocked every once in awhile, they usually are very quick to fix our issues and other customers we’ve heard from in live chat and support tickets. Keep in mind that there will be some downtime, as we’ve experienced, but as of right now, there aren’t many options. I mean look at UFlix…

Another possible solution is ExpressVPN since they have enough users and resources to rotate and refresh blocked shared IPs constantly.
