Unfortunately, only the top tier VPN providers have designed mobile applications. Our favorite mobile applications are easy to use, and don’t require you to install a bunch of stuff or configure your settings to connect. A good mobile VPN application only requires you to tap connect, and then you’ll connect. Check out some of these VPN providers if you want a good iOS VPN provider.
Sounds easy right?
Well, a significant amount of VPN providers don’t even bother with a mobile app, since you can use the native OpenVPN application on your phone to connect. It’s not as easy, or convenient, but it can get the job done. The OpenVPN app can be downloaded for either iOS or Android, and most VPN providers provide guides on how to use their VPN with the OpenVPN application. Some people even prefer using the OpenVPN application since it uses the OpenVPN protocol, which is the best protocol to use. Why is that?
Most VPN applications from providers use IPSec/L2TP (very secure but not as fast or new as OpenVPN), since Apple has severely limited applications with API restrictions from using OpenVPN in their applications. The developers of the OpenVPN signed a lot of agreements with apple since it uses special proprietary apple code.
So either you’re forced to use this OpenVPN application since you don’t have any alternative for your VPN provider, or you’re using this OpenVPN application to use the OpenVPN protocol.
