In this guide, we will help you pick the best torrent application for you in 2016. Over the years, torrent applications have drastically changed, evolved, or worsened–whether from consistent updates, enforced ads–or no updates at all, it’s always important to stay up to date on what the best torrent applications are.

Torrent applications vary in function, usability, monetization models, and overall usefulness. You might think that one torrent application is as good as another, and to an extent, that is true since most help you download files through a P2P network with relative ease and similar function.

However, as with internet browsers, VPNs, or even virus applications, your user experience can vary quite wildly from frustrated to completely satisfied for various reasons.

In this article, we will break down the top 5 torrent applications of 2016 into various categories so you can isolate which torrent application will be perfect for you.

Important note:

Are you using a VPN to torrent? If not, you might be getting a letter in the mail soon, or have other people monitoring your torrent activity, including your internet service provider.

Due to the nature of P2P and how torrenting works, you are naturally inside a public network called a BitTorrent swarm, where you can see other users IPs and they can see yours. This is definitely not safe! So check out some of our most recommended VPNs for torrenting!

5 Things to Do Before Torrenting with a VPN

Easy to Use

qBittorrent

What are the Best Torrent Applications of 2016?

qBittorrent is one of the best BitTorrent clients out there for people who want a simple minimalist client that doesn’t have ads, or extra features cluttering the interface. It’s lightweight and it doesn’t take too many system resources, but it also has enough features to feel complete.

At its core, BitTorrent is also open source. It also has important features like torrent prioritization, querying, selective content download, torrent creation, remote access, and RSS subscription. Most importantly, qBittorrent doesn’t have any ads or bundled adware during installation.

Multi-featured

Vuze

What are the Best Torrent Applications of 2016?

Vuze is a more in-depth client compared to qBittorrent, and its installation can be finicky with add-ons, and the interface bloated with ads–but the core client is very deep and feature-rich for people who need or just like a little bit more power, statistics, and settings to configure.
With Vuze, you can view visualizations, use file conversion, content discovery through automated subscriptions, and more features such as the ability to bind Vuze to your VPN adapter serving as a kill switch!

Blender

Tixati

What are the Best Torrent Applications of 2016?

While Vuze has a ton of features, and at times feels a bit bloated for the everyday casual user, Tixati manages to find a good middle ground between features and accessibility.

However, it’s still a bit overloaded with statistics and information that you may not be interested in. I personally find Tixati too similar to qBittorrent in look and feel, but without the same usability. However, if you like statistics and a few more features, Tixati might hit that sweet spot.

Semi Easy to Use

Deluge

What are the Best Torrent Applications of 2016?

Deluge is remarkably similar to qBittorrent in that it is open source, ad-free, and incredibly lightweight. So why download Deluge if you have qBittorrent or vice versa? Well for starters, Deluge is missing some features like

Well for starters, Deluge is missing some features like a RSS downloader, and some users have complained that deluge is less effective at Ram and CPU usage.

On the flipside, Deluge has a lot of plugin features, watch folders, and a feature which auto deletes torrent files after certain times if you don’t want to seed.

If you want my opinion on the two, I think Deluge has some cooler niche features, but qBittorrent is more stable and fast overall.

Old timer

uTorrent

What are the Best Torrent Applications of 2016?

uTorrent is still on the list, even if we don’t recommend it since it still dominates the Bittorrent market as the most popular BitTorrent application. It used to be the “go-to” Bittorrent application since it really was one of the first (alongside former Vuze’s Azureus). In the current state, however, uTorrent has a lot of ads and is bogged down in the installation process similar to Vuze.

Yet, it still can be usable, if a bit slower compared to some more open-source lightweight programs like qBittorrent. A lot of people don’t like how closed down uTorrent is, and the program/service operates more like a business than some of the other open-source alternatives.

That’s it! These are some of the best BitTorrent applications of 2016. So we hope that you found this list of the best torrent applications of 2016 useful, but if you aren’t satisfied, head over to our forums to discuss any features or applications, or comment with a question below!
