If you’re an Android or iPhone user, you know the pains of battery loss. You start off with a strong 100% and before long, after what seems like only a hour or two, you’re suddenly down to 40 or 50% battery, and the day has barely even started.
Online mobile games, video streaming, or picture recording are all strong culprits of battery loss. However, using a VPN while browsing or doing any of the aforementioned can also be a killer. The reason being is that most mobile VPN apps are not optimized or made correctly and are a huge strain on your mobile phone.

Some of the top VPN apps on the app store are apps like “Hotspot Shield” which, if you read our review and articles, isn’t a good VPN to use. If you’re using this app, I would wager you are experiencing some pretty bad battery loss. You might even be unintentionally giving away your data with a free VPN. So while there are a lot of free VPNs and VPN offerings to use on iPhone and Android alike, we don’t recommend most of them, not only because they drain your battery, but they also compromise your data.
So what is a good VPN to use on your iPhone or Android device that won’t drain your battery?
Our favorite mobile VPN app is TorGuard. The most important aspect when choosing a mobile VPN is making sure that they have a good PC VPN foundation, and TorGuard does. The mobile app largely works the same without as many bells and whistles. It’s easy to use, compatible with both platforms, free to download (but you need a sub to use). The app isn’t topping any charts by any means, like Hotspot, but the company isn’t also spamming twitter feeds and writing fake reviews for their app either like Hotspot.
TorGuard’s mobile VPN app comes with good security, a no logging policy, good speeds, and it won’t sap your battery. Of course, with a VPN active, you will have more battery loss than normal, but TorGuard’s app is very good for saving battery, but also saving your private information on the go in public Wi-Fi hotspots.
