TorGuard VPN seems just like a standard VPN at first glance, as their one month price is $9.95. However, every other pricing model for TorGuard VPN is actually quite good. Their 3-month plan is only $19.99, the 6-month plan is not much more expensive at $29.99, and the annual subscription only costs $59.99 (thirty dollars cheaper than BTGuard VPN). TorGuard offers Bitcoin checkout and gift card checkout, and they offer a no hassle refund policy that can work through their live chat.

TorGuard VPN easily wins here with more payment options and better payment pricing that rewards customers who sign up for a longer commitment.
Software
BTGuard VPN, at its core, isn’t really what VPN companies have evolved into. It’s still a VPN provider, but since it doesn’t even provide its own VPN software, it’s hard to really review them from a software standpoint. They use OpenVPN as a tool for their VPN servers, and while it does get the job done, it’s still a clunky and troublesome process compared to the simple installation we see from other VPN providers.
TorGuard also uses a similar software to OpenVPN called Viscosity. However, the difference is that it’s a complement to their service–not the main draw. Viscosity is very easy to setup and powerful–and normally requires you to pay for it. However, TorGuard gives away this license for free with your subscription as well as their TorGuard Lite client. This client is really TorGuard’s bread and butter, and it’s seen constant improvements and various iterations. TorGuard VPN has a great mobile client that is simple to use and install. Simply pick your server, and you can connect to their VPN servers without having to navigate to your phone’s settings.

Extra Services
BTGuard’s sole extra offering is their BitTorrent proxy. However, we wouldn’t recommend torrenting with BTGuard since we got such slow speeds.
TorGuard VPN focuses just as much on their extra services as they do on their main VPN offering. However, this doesn’t mean that any service is neglected. Each one of their services (encrypted email, VPN routers, proxies, stealth VPN, dedicated servers) are consistently updated and improved.

TorGuard VPN is the best VPN to use if you want a full complete security package with supported additions and services. This also means that they fully support Netflix via live chat with their shared dedicated IP addresses.
Website
BTGuard has an extremely simple VPN landing page so that you can purchase BTGuard. Their support is loaded onto another support website which is annoying, and their VPN troubleshooter has said “coming soon” for years. Not only that, but the site has various glitches and just feels outdated overall. It’s functional, but barely.
TorGuard VPN manages to have a website that is very detailed but easy to navigate. Since it has so many extra services, it’s a bit confusing taking in everything at once, but their forum, live chat, blog, and support articles cover every base if you take the time to understand the depth and complexities of services offered.

One of the only VPN sites to have a forum and 24/7 live chat, as well as fully detailed feature listings, TorGuard VPN easily beats BTGuard VPN.
Servers
BTGuard VPN really doesn’t have that many servers at all. Most of their servers are in Canada, Netherlands, or Singapore.
TorGuard VPN has over 1500 servers in 42+ locations–perfect for any location around the globe. While TorGuard VPN doesn’t have San Francisco servers, their Los Angeles servers and Stealth VPN servers work very well for a variety of locations.

Privacy
BTGuard VPN claims that they offer 256-bit AES encryption, but they really only offer 128-bit blowfish encryption. We found this out by digging around a little bit in our BTGuard VPN review. They also claim that they don’t log, but seeing how they make other claims they can’t backup–I wouldn’t trust them.
TorGuard VPN has 256-bit AES encryption, as well as numerous security protocols for censored countries like Stealth Proxy which makes VPN use invisible. Their RSA key is also good at 2048 bits. They also claim that they don’t log or keep user data.

TorGuard VPN is a great VPN to choose if you’re worried about privacy. They haven’t had any user reports or DMCA investigations.
Speeds
In our BTGuard VPN review, we didn’t receive good speeds. In our tested servers, we got very slow latency, as well as download speeds. The torrent file downloaded at an average rate of 4 Mbps.
While TorGuard VPN didn’t test as high as we wanted, we received extremely quick real-time speeds of 20 Mbps, which is nearly identical to use without VPN.

Support
BTGuard only has the most rudimentary support guides, with most simply helping for setup, and a good amount simply ignored or unfinished. They don’t have live chat, and their support can be slow.
