Clash of Clans is one of the most popular and successful mobile games in the world. You can find the game on Twitch, TV ads, and it’s always on the top of app stores. It has hundred of thousands of users, and even more in revenue which is put back into the game with constant updates that make the game bigger and better. The only bad news is that Iran doesn’t like the game anymore. Just recently, Iran has decided to block Clash of Clans so Iranian users can no longer play the game.
An Iranian governmental committee called for restrictions citing that the game encouraged violence and tribal conflict. Who would’ve thought a cartoony harmless base builder with competitive elements would be deemed dangerous? If I were the member of such a committee and I HAD to ban a game, it is a game like Hatred— not Clash of Clans.
The committee also pointed out that the app could be too addictive and endanger teenagers who spend too much time and money on it. That certainly could be true, since statistics warrant that almost 64% of mobile gamers in Iran actively play Clash of Clans. But this factoid still does not warrant censorship of a game that is at its core very harmless.If we were to take this approach, every successful game would be banned, and ever successful TV show could be banned too. Hell, why don’t we ban Hot Cheetos? They are addictive too.
This isn’t the first time Iran has taken steps to limit mobile gamer users. In July of 2016, Iran banned Pokemon Go, and we covered how to unblock that as well. Fortunately, it’s not hard to unblock any game in Iran, and the approach is always the same. You can purchase and setup a VPN to get around region-locked restrictions.
How to Unblock Clash of Clans in Iran
Step #1 Find a good VPN that works in Iran. For now, I’d recommend TorGuard since it’s cheap and our top-rated VPN (see this full TorGuard Review). You could use a free VPN potentially, but I’d recommend checking out this article first.
Step #2 Once you decide on a VPN, you need to follow the emailed instructions and download the provided VPN app onto your mobile device. You can find TorGuard in all app stores, and it’s easy to setup. Once it’s downloaded, login to the mobile app and enter your login credentials.
Step #3 Once you are signed in, pick a location that is outside of Iran. This is SUPER important since if you choose an Iran server, you cannot trick the Iranian ISPs into giving you access to Clash of Clans.
Step #4 Once you connect to a US server, or a server/location outside of Iran that doesn’t have the game blocked, you can leave the app (leave it on) and turn on Clash of Clans. You will find that the game works like normal and you can play all that you want!
