Cyberghost and GhostVPN are two “ghost” VPNs competing in the VPN marketplace. We’ve reviewed CyberGhost here, and GhostVPN here, but we haven’t compared them directly to one another. In this Cyberghost vs. GhostVPN comparison, we do just that.
Price – Winner GhostVPN
Pricing | Monthly | Quarterly |
Annually |
CyberGhost VPN | $6.99 /$10.99 | No plan offered | $69.96 |
GhostVPN | $9.99 | $19.99 | $59.99 |
As you can see from the table, CyberGhost VPN has a better starting monthly plan, but it also does include fewer features overall. I should also mention that CyberGhost has a “free” model, but it’s capped at 500GB and significantly slower so you can use it for streaming or torrenting really. There isn’t much use to it at all except as a trial. GhostVPN offers a browser proxy in comparison, which is free and doesn’t have a cap which is more useful.
To get the same amount of connections as offered by GhostVPN, you need to up the price to $10.99 for premium. It’s annoying to see that they are holding simultaneous connections behind a paywall.
Lastly, GhostVPN offers more payment plans and is cheaper on an annual basis.
Software – Winner GhostVPN
From a design perspective, GhostVPN and CyberGhost VPN both look quite nice. GhostVPN has more of a spooky theme while CyberGhost has more of a cartoony look.
CyberGhost has some important features like a kill switch, but a lot of the added features are fluff instead of actual settings you would use.
Things like an ad-blocker and malware protection feel out of place in a VPN app, while GhostVPN is full of useful settings that enable you to protect your DNS from leaking, enable Stealth VPN, enable scripts, and customize your network settings.

Speeds – Winner GhostVPN
In our speed tests, CyberGhost had super variable speeds ranging from 384 ms and slow download speeds of 4.41 Mbps to 31 Ms and 133 Mbps download speeds.
However, GhostVPN tested much more consistently at around 24 ms and 79.92 Mbps with an 11.21 Mbps upload rate. In torrent speed tests, GhostVPN performed better.
Servers – Winner GhostVPN
According to their site, CyberGhost has servers in 30 different countries while GhostVPN has servers in 45+ countries. Checking out the server list inside the applications is also a good indicator that GhostVPN simply has more active servers for users to use around the world with good speeds, while CyberGhost VPN servers tend to fluctuate regarding performance and speed.
Website – Winner GhostVPN
CyberGhost has a fuller site at this time, but it’s also cluttered and full of fluff. That said, it does give you most of the important details you would need to know before deciding if you want to purchase it or not, but GhostVPN’s website is all in one page which tabs that show you exactly where you go to give you the information you need.
In time, GhostVPN will fill out some of the content missing like support guides, but I think their minimalist website and direction leads to a better website.
Verdict
In this CyberGhost vs. GhostVPN comparison, GhostVPN won out every time. The most surprising thing is that GhostVPN is a brand new VPN provider in 2016, while CyberGhost has been in the business for awhile! This is a great indication of GhostVPN’s success in the future. I doubt we’ll see them upselling simultaneous connections.
